Why solar water heating

Saudi sunshine heats your water. Your backup only covers the gap.

Water heating runs every day in villas, hotels and accommodation. A correctly sized solar system lets the sun do most of that work, with backup heating ready for peaks and low-sun days.

  • Lower water-heating running costs

Solar collectors pre-heat the water, so electric or other backup heaters run far less often than in a conventional setup.

  • Made for heat and hard water

Closed-circuit systems keep supply water out of the collectors, which protects them against scaling. The EUROSTAR ECO solar loop does not need refilling.

  • Hot water into the evening

Pressure-cast polyurethane insulation keeps stored water hot for up to 48 hours (manufacturer figure for EUROSTAR tanks).

  • Backup that fits your building

An electric element, your existing water heater or a heat pump can top up the temperature when solar alone cannot meet demand.

How it works

Four parts, one simple principle

Solar collectors capture heat, a closed loop carries it to an insulated tank, and a backup heater covers anything the sun cannot.

  1. Collectors absorb solar heat

Flat-plate collectors on the roof absorb sunlight through low-iron tempered glass onto a selective absorber.

  2. A closed loop carries the heat

A heat-transfer fluid circulates between the collectors and the tank, separate from the water you use.

Thermosyphon: hot fluid rises naturally into a tank mounted above the collectors. No pump.Forced circulation: a pump station and controller move the fluid, so the tank can sit in a plant room.
  3. The tank stores hot water

A heat exchanger warms the stored water and insulation keeps it hot until it is needed.

  4. Backup tops up when needed

An electric element or your existing heating takes over on low-sun days or at peak demand.

Applications

Where solar water heating pays off

The strongest cases are buildings that use hot water every day, in predictable amounts.

  • Villas & private homes

    Family bathrooms, kitchens and laundry.

    Typically thermosyphon
  • Residential compounds

Individual units or a shared central plant.

    Thermosyphon or central
  • Hotels & serviced apartments

Guest rooms, kitchens and laundry with morning and evening peaks.

    Typically central
  • Staff & labour accommodation

High occupancy with concentrated shower times.

    Typically central
  • Hospitals & healthcare

Continuous demand where reliable backup matters.

    Central with backup
  • Commercial buildings

Gyms, clubs, schools and facilities with daily hot water use.

    Depends on demand

Have a building that's not listed? Tell us how it uses hot water and we'll tell you whether solar makes sense.

Our engineering approach

We size from your demand, not from a catalogue

Two buildings with the same floor area can need very different systems. Before recommending equipment, our engineers look at how your building actually uses hot water.

Incomplete information is normal at the first enquiry. A building type and a rough number of users is enough to start.

  • Daily hot water demand
  • Peak usage times
  • Required temperature
  • Project location
  • Roof space and orientation
  • Storage and plant room space
  • Water quality
  • Existing heating and backup source
  1. Share project details

Building type, city, number of users, and a drawing or roof photo if you have one.

  2. Technical review

We assess demand, peak loads, available space and how solar connects to your existing system.

  3. Proposed system

You receive the recommended configuration with equipment datasheets for review.

  4. Quotation and scope

A clear quotation covering supply, installation, commissioning and service.

    FAQ

Questions we hear before every project

Something else on your mind? Our engineers are a message away.

Which system is right for my building: thermosyphon or forced circulation?

For a villa or individual homes, a rooftop thermosyphon unit is usually the simplest choice. For hotels, hospitals, staff accommodation and other buildings with high or concentrated demand, a central forced circulation system is normally needed. We confirm the choice after reviewing your demand, roof and plant room space.

Can solar connect to my existing water heater or boiler?

In most cases, yes. Solar can pre-heat the water feeding your existing heater, boiler or heat pump, which then only tops up the temperature. We check the existing equipment and pipework during the technical review.

What happens on cloudy days, at night or during peak demand?

Every system includes a backup source. Thermosyphon units have a built-in electric element with a thermostat. Central systems can use an electric element, your existing boiler or a heat pump. Insulated tanks also keep water hot for many hours after sunset.

How much roof space do I need?

A single-collector thermosyphon unit needs roughly the footprint of one collector plus its frame, about 1 to 2.6 m² of collector area, while two-collector units need about twice that. Central systems need space for the collector array on the roof and room for storage tanks in a plant room. A roof photo or drawing lets us check this quickly.

Does Saudi heat or hard water damage the system?

The systems we supply use a closed solar loop, so mains water never passes through the collectors. That protects them from scaling. Tanks are glass-enamelled with a magnesium anode against corrosion. Overheating protection and mixing valves are specified by our engineers for each project.

    What maintenance is needed?

Thermosyphon units need very little: periodic visual checks, occasional glass cleaning in dusty areas, and anode inspection. Forced circulation systems also need periodic checks of the pump, sensors, controller and fluid. Hi-Best services the systems we install.

What information do you need for a quotation?

Building type and city, the number of users (or rooms, beds, apartments), your existing water heating if any, and a roof photo or drawing if available. If you know the daily hot water volume or required temperature, include it, but it is not required to get started.

What warranty do the systems come with?

Warranty terms depend on the manufacturer and model selected for your project. They are stated clearly in your quotation, together with our installation and service scope.
